Combining geostatistics and flow simulators to identify transmissivity
نویسندگان
چکیده
The reconstruction of the transmissivity field from the more numerous experimental hydraulic head data, an inverse problem, remains the focus of continuing stochasticbased research. The difficulty of this problem arises not only from the complexity of the diffusion equation that links the two variables, but also from taking into account the physical aspects of the site under study; e.g. the boundary conditions, the effective recharge, and the geology. In practical applications, the validity of purely analytical techniques proposed to date is limited by certain simplifying assumptions, like the linearization of the flow equation, made in order to obtain a solution. For this reason, a hybrid methodology combining geostatistical techniques with deterministic numerical flow simulators is proposed. This combination allows the numerical calculation of the direct and cross covariances needed to cokrige the transmissivity from both the transmissivity and hydraulic head data. The flexibility of numerical flow simulators takes away the need for the simplifying assumptions of analytical techniques to apply the proposed methodology. q 1998 Elsevier Science Limited. A Laboratory Study on Stress Dependency of Joint Transmissivity and its Modeling with Neural Networks, Fuzzy Method and Regression Analysis
Correct estimation of water inflow into underground excavations can decrease safety risks and associated costs. Researchers have proposed different methods to asses this value. It has been proved that water transmissivity of a rock joint is a function of factors, such as normal stress, joint roughness and its size and water pressure therefore, a laboratory setup was proposed to quantitatively m...
متن کاملEfficient gradual deformation using a streamline-based proxy method
The application of state-of-the-art history matching methods to large heterogeneous reservoirs is hampered by two main problems: (1) reservoir models should be constrained jointly to dynamic data and a large variety of geological continuity information, (2) CPU demand should not be prohibitive for large models. This paper proposes a method contributing to alleviating these two main concerns. By...
متن کاملAlgorithm-driven and Representation-driven Random Function : A New Formalism for Applied Geostatistics
This paper makes the case for a new look at random function, one that is consistent with current and successful geostatistics practice. Two classes of random functions (RF) are presented defined either by an algorithm, termed algorithm-driven RF or explicitly through a set of (data-conditioned) representations, termed representation-driven RF. These new types of RF are alternatives to the class...
متن کاملSimulation of a membrane air separation unit using industrial process simulators
Nowadays, membrane processes are widely used for high purity Nitrogen production. Separation of air by membranes is a flexible process in which the investment and operational costs are lower than for example adsorption or cryogenic processes. Such processes are based on relative permeability of air components which are transported by the pressure difference between two sides of the membrane. M...
متن کاملSaturated flow in a single fracture: Evaluation of the Reynolds equation in measured aperture fields
Fracture transmissivity and detailed aperture fields are measured in analog fractures specifically designed to evaluate the utility of the Reynolds equation. We employ a light transmission technique with well-defined accuracy (;1% error) to measure aperture fields at high spatial resolution (;0.015 cm). A Hele-Shaw cell is used to confirm our approach by demonstrating agreement between experime...
